Water and chemicals are essential to industrial growth, technological progress, and modern ways of living, yet their unsustainable use poses serious risks to ecosystems, public health, and economic stability. At Enova, we go beyond compliance by delivering science-based, policy-driven solutions that align industrial progress, health and environmental protection with the core principles of sustainability.

Chemical management

  • Development of chemical inventories:
Covering POPs, mercury, and ozone-depleting substances
  • Policy alignment with international conventions: Support to governments in harmonizing legislation with the Stockholm Convention, the Minamata Convention, the Vienna Convention and its Montreal Protocol, among others, including development of phase-out strategies and national implementation plans
  • Industrial resource flow optimization: Development  of tailored solutions for industries  that enhance safety, efficiency, and competitiveness in production processes, based on assessment of  chemical / water / energy/ material flows
  • Capacity building and awareness-raising: Designing and delivering trainings, workshops, and outreach activities for universities, industry, government institutions, and civil society to strengthen chemical safety, promote green innovation, and support effective policy implementation

Water management

  • Support to governments to meet the EU Water Framework Directive and water policy goals: Integrated river basin management planning and ecological and chemical status assessments for surface and groundwater
  • Assessment of pressures and pollution sources: Analysis of water abstraction, overuse, and pollution from both point and diffuse sources, including the impact of land use
  • Protection of transboundary water bodies: Development of strategies for sustainable management of international waters, with a focus on the Danube River and the Mediterranean Sea

Contaminated sites

  • Identification and remediation of contaminated sites: Mapping pollution hotspots and designing effective, site-specific remediation and depollution strategies tailored to local conditions
  • Comprehensive diagnostics of soil and water contamination: Field sampling, laboratory analysis, and risk assessment to evaluate pollution levels and identify exposure pathways
  • Targeted depollution solutions for hazardous substances: Development of remediation plans high-risk pollutants such as PCBs, PFOS/PFAS, pesticides, heavy metals, and other hazardous substances
  • Development of national remediation and prevention plans: Support to governments in formulating strategies and action plans to restore contaminated land and prevent future pollution
Chemicals: We support governments in aligning chemical management with international conventions such as the Stockholm Convention, the Minamata Convention, the Vienna Convention and its Montreal Protocol, among others. Our team develops chemical inventories for persistent organic pollutants (POPs), mercury, and ozone-depleting substances, and assists in identifying priority chemicals, pollution sources, contamination sites and remediation needs. By promoting green chemistry, circular economy principles, and resource efficiency within industry, we deliver tailored, science-based solutions that align economic goals with environmental compliance. For contaminated sites, we provide comprehensive diagnostics and targeted remediation strategies for pollutants such as PCBs, PFOS/PFAS, pesticides, and heavy metals.

Waters: We specialize in integrated river basin management, pollution pressure assessment, and water status analysis to protect water resources while promoting sustainable development. Our expertise covers the assessment of pollution from both point and diffuse sources, the impact of land use, and pressures on water quantity, including abstraction and overuse. We support governments in assessing the full impact of human activities on surface and groundwater, including ecological and chemical status evaluations for the purpose of national planning and policymaking. Our work helps governments to meet the objectives of the EU Water Framework Directive and to protect transboundary waters such as the Danube River and the Mediterranean Sea.
