The overall objective of the project is to support Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Canton of Sarajevo to take action on mitigating air pollution through promotion and utilization of renewable energy sources and improvements in access to district heating. The feasibility study for the Canton of Sarajevo district heating system addresses both the long-term strategy for the district heating sector in the Canton as well as priority investments suitable for financing in the short-term, taking into account the strategic orientation of the Cantonal Government towards strengthening its DHS and identified measures in this regard and best European practice in DHS solutions.
The project contributes to identifying possibilities for expansion and improvement of the district heating system in Sarajevo based on natural gas, as well as inter-connection and expansion of service areas by analyzing opportunities along the entire heat supply chain from generation to distribution to final utilization.
The study also identifies and assesses the potentially significant existing and future adverse environmental and social impacts of the expansion and consolidation of the district heating system, including gender aspects and priorities of the consumers and the district heating company.
